well today, the toilet was sick on me.

heavy rain, and i mean HEAVY rain, caused minor floods and drains to
overflow, and yes, toilets to bubble their shit up all over the bathroom
floor.

i was enjoying the storm up until i heard gurgling from the bathroom.

to make matters worse (or perhaps ... better) i had spent the day cleaning
the bathroom ... the sink and bath were positively glistening, and luckily,
i had removed the mat thingys to put in the wash. otherwise it would have
got soaked, and i suppose, washed anyway.

so now i'm pissed off.

started drinking bit earlier than usual tonight.

also i'm hungry, maybe i'll get takeaway pizza delivered. it's tuesday so
dominos do any large pizza for £9.99

it's days like this i wish i was at home, with parents to take care of me,
clean up the mess left by acts of god, and make me hot chocolate and toast.

instead, i'm sat here with a rather ginny gin martini, contemplating how
best to rid the bathroom of evil germs, and also what toppings to have on my
pizza.

i wonder if the same thing happened to every flat in this block. i also
wonder why pipes aren't fitted with valves so water only goes one way. i
also wonder why it didn't happen to the kitchen sink downstairs. and
finally, i wonder whether there is going to be another heavy burst of rain
this evening which will do the same thing. and how it may be prevented from
happening again.

can't really unplug the plumbing system now can we?

(ps the thunder and lightning today was well cool, if i was in some acient
civilisation which didn't understand weather, i would have thought god was
REALLY angry with something)

It's been fairly exciting here in Acton as well. I went to the supermarket
earlier to buy some milk and had to wait for about half an hour before it was
sensible to leave. Several shops on the way back were shut because they had
flooded.

I don't think I've ever seen it rain so hard and for so long in Britain. Getting
a bit bored of it now though. I wish my umbrella wasn't broken.

Indeed, for reference's sake, I'm in Hammersmith.

I don't recall ever seeing so much thunder and lightning, not sure about the
rain, cos there were those floods in the south east a few years ago which
did a fuckload of damage, I don't think it was as bad as that, but on the
other hand, a toilet has never thrown up on me before.

The rain we got in Berkshire was rubbishy, which is a shame 'cause I
love a good thunderstorm, it's one of my favourite natural things, as
long as I don't start thinking of Bagladesh etc. etc..

Oh, ta, you've reminded me that I really must go and look up that
story now so that I can print some reports off to use near Christmas
time - great GCSE case study....

Hardly a spot up here. We had a picnic, played some cricket and
generally had a warm, sunny, summers day. What's all the fuss about?

Mostly it was a warm sunny day in London, with a few short but very intense
showers accompanied by thunder. The actual amount of rain that fell wasn't
much, but problems were caused by the fact that it all fell in a very short
time.

The lightning also knocked out the electronics on the signal box at Lewisham
just before the evening rush hour (which is actually a period of
about three hours). A big proportion of the trains to south-east London
and Kent pass through that junction, so large numbers of comuters were left
stuck for hours. I would have been one of them had I not just happened to
have an afternoon appointment at home and left work early.

Damn shame eh?

It was a little more than a flake of snow seen in London scenario
then?

I happened to watch the end of Newsnight and KW mentioned something
about viewers offering front rooms to do the programme. Was there a
problem with TV studios or something?

Since I wrote the above, I've seen more reports, and it seems there was more
to it than I first supposed. In south London, where I live, it was just a
couple of heavy intense showers, which would not have been matters of
significance had it not been for a lightning strike which knocked out
signalling and hence trains used by hundreds of thousands of people.
However, in other parts of London - mainly to the west - really large
amounts of rain fell, the normal monthly rainfall in a matter of minutes,
which caused much more serious flooding than I witnessed.

Expense and another thing to go wrong.

something like that, according to Scotty.

Maybe HE was making a comment of your devotion to the bathroom, rather than
doing HIS work!
